Powder Horn 2009

In April and May Bob and I went to Powder Horn, which is an adult leader training for High Adventure scouting.

It was a blast. We had specialists from the community come in and teach the different high adventure sports. Some of them were...fly fishing, rifle, pistol, and shotgun shooting, kayaking, canoeing, horsemanship, scuba diving, rock wall climbing, a high COPES course where you are about 30 feet in the air walking a tight rope and many more. I was too chicken to do the high COPES course, but I did climb the rock wall and zip line down. That was fun, I think I liked the zip line coming down better then climbing up. The view of the Hood Canal was awesome from the top!

At the top of the 50 ft tower getting ready to zip line down. I think it was about a 1/4 mile down.

Left to right-Judy Castanares-Admin, Denise Marlatt-Admin, Candy Snyder-Course Director and Voni Scott-Russell-Program. Bob came as a participant and he had as much or more fun then I did. I really loved spending the time in the woods with him and all my scouting friends.

Whitewater kayaking instruction: during this class they showed how to roll over in the kayak.
Bob trying his hand at pistol shooting.
He was picked to represent his crew in the shooting competition.
Bob climbing the rock wall. He almost got to the top but had to stop because he had injured his knee earlier that day and it was giving out on him.

Doing my daily admin work on the computer.Me and my good friend Judy Castanares were the admin staff for the course, we spent most of the time that we weren't listening or participating in the classes, taking pictures and publishing the daily newsletters, along with all the other admin tasks that was needed for the classes.

Bob and I both had a great time and recommend Powder Horn to anyone that wants to take their scouts out on high adventure outings. At Powder Horn you learn where and how to get the resources, information, and experts to do almost anything that you could ever imagine doing in the outdoors. It was a great experience.
